Dec. 19, 1913 letter to Herbert A. Pickert

Found several envelopes on Ebay addressed to Mr. Herbert A. Pickert of Eatonville, Wash. in both 1914 and 1913. Amazing they survived over 100 years.

There are a few things interesting about these envelopes. First, it that you didn’t need a full address back then. Second, postage was only 2 cents.

Lastly, there was a lot of pre promotion for the World’s Panama-Pacific Exposition in San Francisco, even though it would be held Feb. 20 through December 4, 1915.

“Its ostensible purpose was to celebrate the completion of the Panama Canal, but it was widely seen in the city as an opportunity to showcase its recovery from the 1906 earthquake. The fair was constructed on a 635 acre site in San Francisco, along the northern shore now known as the Marina District. (Wikipedia)
