Ma King

Margaret Catherine King became known simply by the Eatonville community as Ma King. She was born November 10, 1853, in Blue Ridge, Henderson, NC. She and  her husband John Dillard King moved out to the Silver Lake area in 1889 and raised their family.

Before coming to Eatonville, the Kings lived for a while in Texas. The Civil War had a big impact on the young Margaret and John. They named several of their children after Confederate generals.

As settlers, the Kings had a big influence on the growing community. In fact, there are still descendants in the community today.

Ma King passed away April 15, 1934.
