Ernie and Harrison Christian logged together for years until Ernie was tragically killed in the woods. These shots were taken around 1970 in a hill above Morton. The saw in the shot is a Stihl 090.

  1. Good days then. One day I could be hauling gravel for their roads and landings with Jerry Coburn’s little 5 yard dump truck and the next day be hauling logs from them with a Kiso truck. Still see Harrison when I’m up in the area.

  2. In the first photo I had Ernie stand at the exact bottom of the log to give an idea of its thickness. He was 6 ft tall without his hat.

    Thanks,
    Harrison

  3. At the same time that these pics were taken,I was out of work as a home builder,as the 1st recession that I remember hit the building industry, so I had always spent a lot of weekends and my 2week vacations falling timber for Ernie and Harrison as well as other cutters ” but ” at this particular time Dale Olden was bucking for me, Harrison was single jacking,, I remember Dale and myself each were running 056 supers, Ernie was useing a o90 Stihl. I was the one who convinced them that they had to give up their Homelites 1150s and go to the Stihls. the area in the pics are known as Swanson Hill as one of their brothers got killed there some years before. The story of that tragety is a very, very interesting story in itself. The years that I spent cutting timber I swear were the best years of my life and working for two of my best friends. Love to all of you out there! Sincerly DuWayne
