We were getting low on hay and I just ran down to King Feed and pick up 10 bales of alfalfa. That wasn’t an option just a handful in the early 1900s when farmers cut the hay, dried and stacked and hoped that it would last the winter. If not, you were in trouble, faced with decisions like whether or not to sell animals.
