Coach Ernie Cope (top left) stands next to his 1949 EHS Basketball team. “Cope was a coach at the old Kapowsin high school in the early forties before coaching at Eatonville. His first Eatonville Basketball team was in 1945. He coached at Eatonville from 1945 to 1967 before retiring,” says Dick Logston.
Rich Williams, thank you for sharing the names of the players!

A small tidbit about this team. This team won the Pierce County Class B championship in 1949. Until Eatonville’s defeat by Orting by one point in the second half of the season, the Cruisers had won 45 consecutive games in four seasons in league play. This was the third consecutive championship crown under the guidance of Coach Ernie Cope.

I remember going to the games while I was in grade school. This group of players were exciting to watch. Some great players on that team.
