  • Rural Map of Eatonville Area (1963)

Love maps, and this one is a “rural map” of the area from 1963 — from about the Nisqually River to Lake Kapowsin. You can see the tacks where it was pinned to a wall. If anyone knows what it was used for, please share. Photo courtesy of the Baublits family.  Click on image to enlarge.

  • Fife versus Eatonville Grade School in Archery (1956)

Yes, Eatonville used to be into archery. This shot taken by Joe Larin, May, is 1956, is of a competition between Fife and Eatonville Grade School. Who won? I’m not sure. By today’s standard this seems a little dangerous — arming dozens of young men with bows and arrows. But it seemed to work. Photo…

  • Postnet (ca. 1952)

What folks call today “the Postnet building” was perviously Kneip’s Trucking Service. This building has has a host of different tenants throughout the years. The following was provided by Rich and Ruthie Williams: Charley Chamberland built this building in 1913. It was Eatonville’s first bakery. In the 1930’s, D.G. and Cloie Morgan purchased the bakery. In…

  • Fishing at the Kids Ponds – April 1955

The kids pond was built in 1952 at the same time and by the same loggers that built the Eatonville airport. Here are a few shots taken by Joe Larin of kids fishing several years later in 1955. Photo courtesy of the Baublits family. Click on images to enlarge.

  • Downtown Eatonville Photos from 1947-48 – Taken with Donald Duck Camera

I know these shots taken on Mashell Ave. are small, but that’s because they were taken by Dick Logston in 1947-48 on a Donald Duck camera he received for Christmas. Here’s what he has to say, “I think the boy one the bike is myself, but not 100 percent sure. The other two were taken…

  • The Cruiser News 1972

A page from The Cruiser News, December 21, 1972. This was long before there was layout software . . . or computers. Everyone was skilled at typing with manual typewriters, cutting and pasting. Thank you Karen Svinth Goucher for sharing. Click on image to enlarge.

  • A Drive Down an early Canyon Road

Pat Walgamott says, “I found this picture of the road along the Nisqually River about 1909….at least what can be seen of it. This is my grandfather driving, Smith H. Miller, from National driving three ladies (probably,  Mrs. John Dobson Scollard, my grandmother Maude Looney Miller, and Cora Looney) down from Pacific National Mill back to…

  • Mashel Prairie Indian Cemetery Clean Up – July 1966

Joe Larin captured this group cleaning up at the Mashel Prairie Indian Cemetery Shaker Church. Anyone have any names? The Indian Henry grave monument is there today in La Grande, Wash. This isn’t something new to Eatonville. In 2005, Eagle Scouts Zach Ingalls and Ryan Ames did another makeover. The story Is in Eatonville News, just click…

  • Parnell’s 1965 (aka Plaza Market)

If you were shopping at the Plaza Market back in 1965, this is what you would have found. You’d also have called it Parnell’s. 1965 was also the year Cool Whip was introduced. Photo taken by Joe Larin and courtesy of the Baublits family.  Click on images to enlarge.

  • Eatonville Theater (ca. 1957)

This shot of the old Eatonville Theater taken in the late 50s, taken by Joe Larin, makes the town look like a ghost town. A new theater had been built but this time, just down on Mashell Ave. Today the building is home to the Eatonville Dance Center. For those that are interested in a brief…

  • Eatonville Drug Store (ca. 1957)

Kirk’s Pharmacy didn’t always look the way it does now. In the 50s you would have seen the Eatonville Rexall Drugs. (The “Rex” in the name came from the common Rx abbreviation for drug prescriptions.) If you’re curious about the history of the drug store, check out The Rexall Story: A History of the Genius and…

  • Eatonville 4th Grade Class (1965)

“An oldie but goodie for some of my long-time Eatonville classmates. I think it was about 3-4 years before girls finally got to wear slacks (no jeans!) to school. How times have changed,” says Sally Lofquist. Top Row: Teacher, Irene Fish, Andy Heagle, Mike McCormick, Dennis Woods, Leslie Gribi, Gayle Emery, Michele Hermsen, Casey Burgess,…
